PlaySushi TextLinks firefox uninstall

Do you have a Firefox Add-on called “PlaySushi TextLinks 1.0.0″ which you would like to remove, but won’t actually go away when you uninstall it from your Firefox?

What you need to do is close Firefox, go into your control panel, go into add or remove programs, and manually search for the program and uninstall it that way. Otherwise, the application has a background process which will just re-install the app once the browser reboots.

A Google search revealed nothing on the subject, so this must be a new type of spyware. The only function of this addon is to place text links on all websites based on popular keywords. The popups from hovering over the links gives you some games that you can play, which I’m sure the company also makes money from. The addon also sets cookies so that certain online purchases also makes them money, as if they referred a sale because of you.

THANK YOU, I had heard on the web that this site contained some sort of malware or spyware, but McAffee didn’t detect it, so I downloaded it anyway. I couldn’t get it to work so I tried to delete it, and I was pretty freaked out when it kept re-installing itself.

You need to uninstall playsushi from control panel as well, and you wont have it anymore.

    This worked for me:

    1. Close Firefox
    2. Right Click on the Firefox shortcut on your desktop
    3. Select “Firefox Options”
    4. Under first tab “Main” select “Manage Addons”
    5. Find playsushi and Uninstall.

It should say that this addon will be uninstalled once Firefox is restarted.
Restart Firefox and problem should be solved……permanently.

    Hope this helped.

I uninstalled the program, but the Firefox add-on is still there and it keeps re-installing itself. I tried searching for it in my computer, but it couldn’t find it. I did everything on here, and none of it worked.

      Same here, I went to control panel and everything and it’s still there! ><;

Likewise, I have removed the program, using control panel, and using Revo Uninstaller, which claims to remove all traces when uninstalling, even above the onboard uninstall feature programs come with. What now? It is not listed as a program, but it still keeps popping up when I hit any word that is in blue… Hateful.

    I figured it out!
    Trust me guys and read:

    1. Go to My Computer
    2. Go to you Disk Drive that holds your Program Files
    3. Then find the folder Program Files
    4. Find the folder that has “sushi” in it
    5. There will be an uninstaller
    6. Uninstall then reboot
    7. It’s gone forever!!!!

Autumn, this took me a bit to fix but I finally got it. Using the latest version of Firefox (version 3.8) I didn’t have to close Firefox at all. Instead, I did the following and so far it appears to have worked:

        1. With Firefox running choose “Tools” on the above menu
        2. On the drop down menu choose “Add-ons”
        3. When the Add-Ons window comes up, select “Extensions”
        4. The nasty little bastard was called “PlaySushi TextLinks” select it and hit “DISABLE”
        5. Restart Firefox
        6. Repeat Steps 1-4, but this time select “Uninstall” and then restar, it should be gone

Initially I tried to UNINSTALL it right away, but it wouldn’t work. It makes sense that it has to be shut down before it can be removed.

Good Luck to everyone. I think I will be enjoying Sushi a little less from now on as a result of this.

It is not in my control panel programs, so I cannot remove it that way.

It is only in my Firefox addons. I have tried to “disable”, restart, then “Uninstall” and restart and it is still there and I get the message “1 new addon installed”. I have tried this several times and can’t get rid of this annoying little beast. It keeps reinstalling itself.

See above. Play Sushi is listed after uninstall NOWHERE, since I uninstalled it, and done so even using self-described kick butt “Revo Uninstaller, ” which claims to remove every last crumb of programs after standard uninstall. Still here. Malicious. Running XP. Maybe NOD antivirus noted above will work, hope its free.

This is really annoying.I wrote to customer support and cussed them out.I got it uninstalled from my computer, but I can’t get the add on off.

I cannot find it on my add/remove. If I try to use their program to uninstall it says it has already been removed.

You should have an uninstaller there. When you open the folder labeled PlaySushi ( item 4 on Savior’s post “4. Find the folder that has “sushi” in it) you should have 3 files. The first is the icon. The second is the text document. And the third should be the uninstaller. Click on it and follow the instructions. That should take care of it. This thing was so incredibly annoying…

    • Chuck Reply

That doesn’t always work though. I uninstalled in through Control Panel initially and as a result, the folder that was in Program files was completely removed, but of course the annoying textlinks were still active.

The critical thing for people to know is that it is labeled as “PlaySushi TextLinks” in the add-on list. Not all versions of Firefox work the same, but every version I’ve ever used has allowed for me to access add-ons from like I mentioned in the steps above.

None of these has work’d for me… Its ONLY in my Fire Fox add ons. I even try’d the “search” in “My Computer” & it didn’t find any files of it. I try’d the “Disable, restart, uninstall, restart”… Didn’t work… I’ve try’d everything aut of all these replies, & nothing has work’d for me. Any help is much appreciated.

When I go to my Program Files, there is no folder there with “sushi” in the name. I can only find it in my Firefox Addons.

It is not in my control panel programs, so I cannot remove it that way.

It is only in my Firefox addons. I have tried to “disable”, restart, then “Uninstall” and restart and it is still there and I get the message “1 new addon installed” in the FireFox Add-on Message bar. I have tried this several times and can’t get rid of this annoying little beast. It just keeps reinstalling itself.

Thank you! After choosing uninstall from the control panel, my laptop said “there is a problem and the PC needs to close”. But after it restarted itself, Playsushi was gone from both my laptop and my Firefox Add-ons. Hopefully it will be gone from Internet Explorer too, since my mother uses that.

Since uninstalling, with built in uninstaller of playsushi did not work, nor did using a neat free program called “Revo Uninstaller” which quickly lists all your programs and uninstalls whichever you wish, including, it says, all traces; and since neither disabling nor deleting PlaySushi from Firefox add-ons did any good (reappears within seconds…) I found this site, which not only gave a link to (The Devil Itself!) a PlaySushi address for their “latest” uninstaller.

Here is the “official” latest PlaySushi uninstaller which “exterminate” site recommends: of course, it is provided by the devil itself, (i.e. it seems to be a site hosted by PlaySushi.com): It actually appears to be working for me, for the moment, unlike using “uninstall” from from control panel: Download latest PlaySushi Uninstaller from the following location: http://www.playsushi.com/Remove.ps

What I really like about the Exterminate site: He has finally explained WHAT the HAY “PlaySushi” actually is… Their PlaySushi.com website is a joke: it actually calls itself “virus free” and “easy to uninstall” if you can believe that! Here is the Exterminate site, if using the latest “official” PlaySushi uninstaller above doesn’t do it for you:

    http://www.exterminate-it.com/malpedia/remove-playsushi

(Before downloading anything from Exterminate, I read all the info, and I went to PlaySushi ‘s own download site as recommended at above “exterminate” site, and as I said, it APPEARED to work, i.e. I do not see it as an add-on on my Firefox list. But if you get no satisfaction by using the devil’s own (i.e. PlaySushi’s) uninstaller, the “ExTerminate site, link above, goes into great detail in telling you how to find every file associated with PlaySushi on your computer and registry…Not sure I would have patience to eliminate them one by one, but now I know where the strong medecine is!)

    I feel for y’all.

    Andy

Thank you!!!!! You have no idea of how long I have been trying to get this stupid thing off my computer. If anyone is still having any issues, run spyware doctor because other malware detectors won’t be able to detect it since it is a legitimate program although adware. I would recommend running while you have the internet open. If you use Google chrome same instructions as above uninstall through “tools” under the wrench on the top bar.
